Eleven Plus Book Club
Online book club with weekly lessons and resources, open to children between the ages of 9 to 12 years.

Get your kids reading, and loving it.
Enrol your child in our Book Club so that we can guide them through a selection of classic novels. We read the kind of books together that feature in many 11+ exams, that are so different from many more modern novels. Lessons build vital comprehension skills, vocabulary and exam technique.

Weekly Lessons
Weekly lessons focus on developing comprehension, appreciation for literary technique, and learning from each writer’s style.

Questions about Book Club?
Answers to FAQs here.
Who can join the Eleven Plus Book Club?
Anyone between the ages of 9 and 12 is welcome to join the Book Club, whether they are preparing for entrance exams such as the eleven plus or not.
How much does it cost to join the book club?
£39 per child per month.
Where does the Book Club take place?
Book club lessons take place online, through Zoom. On registration you will be sent a Zoom link which will be valid for the month’s classes. You will also be able to download the resources for the month. The book club is limited to 12 participants so that each member can really benefit. Spots are first come, first serve. Those taking weekly one on one tutoring with me are guaranteed a spot for free.
What types of books are covered in the lessons?
I guide children through a selection of classic children’s literature, mostly from the last century. The books are chosen to challenge, inspire and delight young readers, and expose them to writing styles they are not likely to experience in more modern fiction.
What should my child do if they join the course?
Your child should read the book in their own time. They will have a month to complete each novel. They should also work through the activities in the Resource Pack which can be accessed if you sign up to the course.
What happens in the lessons?
Each lesson will focus on a short extract from the novel of the month. After the class has read the extract, we will use it to discuss the book’s key themes or characters or learn about the author’s technique. These are key skills needed in Entrance Exams. The last lesson of the month will be a discussion or a debate – engaging fun for keeping enthusiasm high!
Will my child’s homework be marked?
The activity sheets include answers, allowing you or your child to check their work independently. We will review some answers as a group in our sessions. If you would like your child to work on reading individually, you are welcome to book tutoring sessions.
